Sanju Samson will be eyeing another impressive display with the bat if he gets the chance to play in the first of the five-match T20I series against West Indies. The series will get underway on Thursday (August 3) in Trinidad.
The right-handed batsman is likely to play the T20I opener after impressing in the third ODI against West Indies earlier this week. Sanju Samson did not get a chance to play in the first ODI before being included in the playing eleven for the second game. He, however, could not do well in the game and was out for just 9 as West Indies thrashed India by six wickets.
But in the third ODI, Sanju Samson grabbed the opportunity by scoring a quickfire fifty to help India thrash West Indies by 200 runs and clinch the three-match series. He scored 51 runs off 41 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes.
Sanju Samson on the cusp of joining elite list:
With form on his side after the impressive fifty in the ODI series-decider, Sanju Samson will have a chance to enter an elite list during the first T20I on Thursday at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. The Kerala star will have the opportunity to join batting greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the elite list.
Sanju Samson will have the opportunity to become one of the very few players to score 6000 or more runs in the shortest format of the game. So far, he has scored 5979 runs in T20s and is just 21 runs short of entering the 6000-run club. He can become the 13th Indian player to achieve the feat. As of now, Kohli is leading the list after scoring 11,965 runs followed by Rohit who has scored 11, 035 runs.
Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya will be leading the team in the T20I series against West Indies. He too scored an impressive fifty in the third ODI and was also the captain in Rohit’s absence.
