Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the Indian cricket team for a year now. The team management is expecting him to return in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. Talks about Bumrah’s return started after he shared a video clip of his bowling session in the nets.

Jasprit Bumrah has been out of the Indian cricket team since September 2022. He withdrew from the T20I series against South Africa after playing two games against Australia. Bumrah missed the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and the WTC final against Australia.

Earlier this year, he tried to return in the series against Sri Lanka but the BCCI said that he did not regain complete fitness. The Indian pacer underwent back surgery and has been working at the NCA on his fitness ever since.

With the Asia Cup in August-September, followed by the ODI World Cup at home, the team management is sweating over his availability in the squad. Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie recently spoke about the Indian pace bowling arsenal and especially about Bumrah and Shami two of India’s best in recent times.

Talking to TOI, Gillespie said that India are badly missing Bumrah and it is affecting their performance as a whole. He also went on to speak about his qualities as a pacer and what makes him a special bowler.

“I think his (Bumrah’s) absence is being felt. Because he’s one of the best bowlers in the world. Anytime a team is missing one of their best bowlers, it’s going to have an effect on them. India definitely missed him. He’s an immense bowler. He’s a big tall man. He hits the pitch hard. He’s a different style of bowler. From all the feedback I’ve heard from batsmen around the world, he hits the bat a lot. He’s quicker than a lot of people than the speed gun suggests,” Gillespie told the Times of India In an exclusive interview.

He further said that Bumrah hits the bat faster and harder than you expect and termed him as gold dust in the Indian cricket team scheme of things.

Jasprit Bumrah Hits The Bat A Lot Harder: Jason Gillespie

“He (Bumrah) hits the bat a lot harder and a lot higher than you expect. Those sort of bowlers are gold-dust and his record, for the amount of games he’s played, is quite immense. His absence is being felt in Team India. Hopefully, he’ll be back in the park really soon because we all want to see the best players playing. Bumrah is a wonderful bowler and we would love to see him on the park soon” Gillespie further said on Bumrah.

He then went on to speak about Mohammed Shami and his wrist position saying that his release is also perfect.

“I’m a huge, huge fan of Mohammed Shami. He is a wonderful bowler. The wrist position he gets when he releases the ball and the seam position as it’s coming down the wicket is just fantastic. He gives himself every chance to swing the ball. He bowls a really disciplined line and length” Gillespie said on Shami.

Bumrah is yet to be fit and Shami has been rested for the Test series against West Indies. Both of them will be crucial in Asia Cup and World Cup events.
