Former West Indies captain Courtney Walsh has said Virat Kohli was determined to score a century in his 500th international game. The legendary pacer was all praise for the India star as the latter celebrated his milestone game with a sublime knock in the ongoing second Test against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad.

Virat Kohli became the tenth cricketer and just the fourth Indian cricketer to achieve the incredible feat of playing 500 international matches. The other Indians to have achieved this milestone are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni.

And the former India skipper celebrated the special game with a special knock. He scored 121 to help India recover from 182 for 4 and finish their first innings on 438. The star batsman also shared a crucial stand of 159 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the fifth wicket after India suffered the collapse that saw them getting reduced to 182 for 4 from 139 for no loss.

Courtney Walsh praises Virat Kohli:

Courtney Walsh has joined the long list of fans and experts praising Virat Kohli for his knock against West Indies. The former pacer said that he could see the determination on Virat Kohli’s face throughout the knock. It was his 29th Test ton and his first away from home since 2018. Walsh was all praise for Kohli’s maturity, resolve, and timing during the knock.

“It was a very, very good innings by Virat Kohli. A very good partnership between him and Jadeja. I think Virat was determined to get a hundred in this Test match, the 100th Test between India and West Indies, and the 500th international game for him,” Walsh told JioCinema.

“He wanted something to remember from the match. You could see the determination on his face. The sheer timing and the maturity he showed, there was nothing much that went wrong with this innings. You could tell he wanted a big score and he got it. He wanted to do something bigger, he found the gaps very well, superb timing. At the end of it, proper celebration. It was a Virat Kohli show,” Walsh added.

Meanwhile, West Indies have made a good start with the bat in reply to India’s big first innings total. The hosts were on 86 for 1 at stumps on day two.
