Former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev feels that the current Indian players don’t want help from former players. According to Kapil Dev, this is one of the negative points about Indian players.
Kapil Dev’s words arrive after Sunil Gavaskar‘s recent remarks that Indian players do not come to him for advice. Dev also feels that listening to former players who have a lot of experience can be very helpful for players.
Indian Players Think They Know Everything: Kapil Dev
In an interview with The Week magazine, former Indian skipper Kapil Dev said that the good thing about Indian players is that they are very confident. However, he also added that the negative point is that they feel they know everything and don’t need help from anybody.
“Differences come out, the good (thing) about these players…is that they are very confident. Negative point is they think they know everything. I don’t know how to put it better than that. But they are confident, but they think ‘you don’t have to ask anybody’. What we believe is an experienced person can help you,” Kapil Dev said.
Kapil Dev, who led India to the ODI World Cup trophy in 1983, also feels that there are so many cricketers who want help. However, they don’t want to take help from former cricket legends.
“Sometimes too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers think they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Where is the ego? There is no ego as such.
They feel ‘we are good enough’. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, he knows things. Listening sometimes can change your thought,” the 64-year-old further said.
Recently, India lost to West Indies in the 2nd ODI of the ongoing India tour of West Indies 2023. The men-in-blue lost the match by 6 wickets, after failing to defend a 182-run total.
The defeat came as a big surprise for many experts and Indian fans, as West Indies recently failed to qualify for ODI World Cup 2023. With the IND vs WI ODI series leveled at 1-1 after two games, the 3rd ODI will conclude the winners of the series.
