India

India have named a full-strength ODI side led by Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Suryakumar Yadav made the batting core. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are the specialist wicketkeepers adding to the batting strength.

Mohammed Shami who was rested from the Test series is rested from the ODI series as well. In the absence of him and Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack with Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik, and Mukesh Kumar for company. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the specialist spinners.

Heading into the ODI World Cup, this ODI series is a good opportunity for the young batters in the side to prove their mettle. Kuldeep and Chahal returning to the side have an opportunity to bag some wickets and get into the wicket-taking habit.

West Indies

West Indies after failing to qualify for the ODI World Cup are looking to revamp their ODI squad. They have just appointed Shai Hope as their new ODI skipper with Rovman Powell selected as the vice-captain. West Indies have recalled Shimron Hetmyer and Oshane Thomas back into the mix.

Also, the CWI release mentioned that ace all-rounder Jason Holder and keeper-batter Nicholas Pooran are unavailable for selection, while Keemo Paul is out injured. The board is also unwilling to recall the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine back into the white-ball squads. Russell expressed his desire to make a comeback into the T20I squad recently ahead of the T20 World Cup next year.

Without their key players, West Indies have a tough task of playing this ODI series against India who are here with a full-strength squad. How well they play the first ODI will be a reflection of their ability as an ODI side.
