The 29-year-old India National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Mukesh Kumar has etched his name in history books following his T20I debut in the ongoing India tour of West Indies 2023.
Mukesh received his India call-up following his impressive performance in domestic cricket for an extended period. In 39 First-class games, the pacer bagged 149 wickets at an average of 21.55, an economy of 2.70, and a strike rate of 47.7. He also bagged 8 four-wicket hauls and 6 five-wicket hauls in First-class cricket.
Mukesh Kumar has had a dream tour to the West Indies as he made his India debut across all three formats of the game. He made his Test debut on July 20. The pacer impressed many with accurate lines and lengths and finished the match with 2 wickets in his bag.
Mukesh Kumar Joins T Natarajan In Elite List
The Bengal pacer made his ODI debut on July 27 and he went on to play all three matches of the series. He bagged 4 wickets in those three games, with the best bowling figures of 3/30 in the series decider.
The impressive bowling show of Mukesh Kumar helped him earn a T20I debut on the tour as well. He was selected in India’s playing XI over the likes of Umran Malik and Avesh Khan at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday, August 03.
Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar has become just the second Indian after the left-arm seamer T Natarajan to make his international debut in all three formats, i.e., T20I, ODI, and Test, on the same tour. The Tamil Nadu pacer Natarajan achieved the unique milestone during the India tour of Australia 2020/21.
The first T20I against West Indies is a historic one for India. The Men In Blue are playing their 200th match in the shortest format of the game. India played their first T20I way back in 2006 under Virender Sehwag. They have become just the second team after arch-rivals Pakistan to achieve this feat in T20I cricket.
