Former India pacer RP Singh has listed out the possible reasons for the lack of quality pacers in the Indian team. RP Singh feels that not playing enough domestic cricket is a big reason behind the lack of quality pacers in India.
In ongoing India vs West Indies ODI series, key pacers like Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj have been rested. In their absence, young and inexperienced pacers like Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, and Jaydev Unadkat are part of the squad.
Shardul Thakur is another pacer part of the squad. He also lacks experience in ODIs. Hence, when key pacers are rested, Team India do not have backup pacers to fill their space in the squad.

Not Playing Domestic Cricket Big Reason Behind Lack Of Quality Pacers: RP Singh
During a conversation with Hindustan Times, former Indian pacer RP Singh shed light on the reasons behind the lack of quality pacers in India. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that not playing enough domestic cricket is the reason behind the lack of quality pacers in the Indian team.
“We have come from a structure where bowlers used to bowl a hour-and-a-half straight in the nets. That’s how you improve your bowling. See, the bowlers have to take a stand and say that they want to bowl.
You have to nurture your relationship with the ball. Not playing four-day matches, domestic cricket is a big reason behind the lack of quality pacers, and left-arm pacers in particular,” the former left-handed pacer said.

RP Singh also feels that more than the workload management for bowling, the gym workload should be managed. According to the 37-year-old, the more bowlers bowl; the stronger their muscles will be.
“There’s a lot of discussion about it. We cricketers also discuss this among each other. I don’t really believe in workload management when it comes to bowling. Instead of bowling, you should have workload management for gym.
Bowlers actually bowl less. The more you bowl, the stronger your muscles will be. I don’t agree with the notion at all,” said RP Singh, who played over 80 international games for India from 2006 to 2011.
In India vs West Indies ODI series, selectors have rested key bowlers and given chances to newcomers. Pacer Mukesh Kumar made his ODI debut in the recent 1st ODI game against West Indies.
Meanwhile, India won the 1st ODI against West Indies by 5 wickets. The men-in-blue are set to face the Caribbean side in the 2nd ODI in Barbados. IND vs WI 2nd ODI takes place on July 29 (Saturday).
