Hardik Pandya, on Thursday (July 27), failed to impress with the bat in the first ODI against West Indies in Barbados as his stay at the crease was ended by an unfortunate run-out.

Fortunately for Team India, the Hardik Pandya dismissal did not cost them much as they went on to beat West Indies by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Continuing their domination over West Indies, India bowled out the beleaguered hosts for a paltry total of 114 in 23 overs.

Spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball for Team India. Kuldeep was the pick of the bowlers, finishing the match with impressive figures of 4 for 6 in 3 overs while Jadeja picked up 3 wickets for 37 runs. For West Indies, captain Shai Hope top-scored with the bat. The right-handed batsman scored 43 while the next-highest score was 22.

In reply, India chased down the total in less than 23 overs. With the target not being a big one, captain Rohit Sharma decided against opening the innings and sent Ishan Kishan instead. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Shardul Thakur were also promoted but they failed to do the job as India found themselves reeling at 97 for 5 before Rohit came out to bat. He and Jadeja shared an unbeaten stand of 21 runs to take India home.

Hardik Pandya’s bizarre run-out:

Hardik Pandya had the chance to get some much-needed batting practice when he walked out to bat at number four. The allrounder, however, could face only 7 balls for 5 runs before he was run out in a bizarre fashion at the non-striker’s end.

On the first ball of the 14th over, Yannic Cariah bowled a full delivery to Ishan Kishan who hit a hard shot towards the bowler. The West Indies spinner failed to gather the ball and ended up deflecting it onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Hardik Pandya was caught off guard by the incident. Although the allrounder managed to get his bat inside the crease, he could not land his bat in time as replays showed that it was still in the air when the ball hit the stumps.

Watch:

And as the allrounder was given out, the fans took to social media website X to express their displeasure over the same. The fans pointed out that the India star should have been given not out according to the new rules. Here are some of the reactions:
