Rahul Dravid has expressed his delight over the way Team India’s latest transition has started. The former India captain is no new to such situations. As a player, he witnessed it towards the end of his career.
Rahul Dravid was a part of the legendary Indian team that had the likes of VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, and Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary batsman was still playing when Ganguly retired and MS Dhoni replaced Kumble as the captain in Tests in 2008.
Four years later, Rahul Dravid along with Laxman retired too as the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli were given the responsibility of India’s batting department.

The onus is now on Rahul Dravid to oversee the same as the head coach of the Indian team. India have started their transition in Tests by dropping Cheteshwar Pujara for the ongoing series against West Indies. In recent times, the likes of Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav have also faced the axe.
Rahul Dravid on India’s transition:
The transition has started on a promising note. Yashasvi Jaiswal, seen by many as the flagbearer of Indian cricket in the coming years, scored a stunning century on his debut against West Indies in Dominica. And Rahul Dravid is absolutely delighted with the performance. The former India batsman stated that Jaiswal’s performance is a tribute to India’s solid domestic circuit and the team environment.
“It’s a tribute to the domestic system,” Dravid said on the eve of the second Test in Port-of-Spain beginning on Thursday.
“It’s a tribute to the environment around the team that a lot of young players are able to come in and perform straight away. A lot of credit should go to the domestic system for producing this kind of players, especially in the batting department, and also the relaxed environment the team here has been able to create to allow young players to come and express themselves.
“So it’s nice from our perspective as a coach to see young players come in, perform straightaway, and do really well, whether it’s Yashasvi in the last game or the way Shubman has grown over the last six-eight months or seeing the way Ishan [Kishan] came in and kept in the last game on a difficult wicket, he did a really good job.
So there’s been a lot of young players, we’ve seen even in one days and T20s, who’ve come through and done really well. So yeah, credit to our domestic system, NCA, and a lot of other people who can make that possible for us,” he added.
Meanwhile, India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the first Test to take an unassailable lead in the two-match series. The second Test is scheduled to begin on Thursday (July 20). After the Tests, the ODIs and the T20Is will take place.
