Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not a part of the Indian playing XI that will be taking on West Indies in the second ODI in Barbados on Saturday, July 29.
West Indies won the toss and opted to field first as India made a few changes to their playing XI. Hardik Pandya is leading the Indian team in the absence of Rohit Sharam. For West Indies, Shai Hope continues to lead the side. This is a must-win match for the Windies to keep the series alive.
Windies skipper Shai Hope revealed the reason behind his decision to bowl first at the toss. In the first ODI, their spinners tied down the Indian batters in the chase of 115.
“We are going to bowl first, we saw what happened in the last game. The conditions will assist the bowlers. We got two games to play, so we got to win this one to stay alive. It has been a bit unpredictable. Both teams have to play on the same surface. We got to bowl first and put them under pressure. Powell, Drakes is out, Alzarri and Keacy are in,” said Hope.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Rested, Confirms Hardik Pandya
India have rested both Rohit and Virat as they have brought in Sanju Samson and Axar Patel to their lineup. There were talks of Samson being given a chance in the build-up to the second ODI. He is slotted to bat at number three in the lineup. Hardik at the toss said that both Rohit and Virat have been rested as the team management is keen on giving a chance to the youngsters.
“We were looking to bat first. We want to see how much we can score on this pitch which is a bit up and down. Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, so they are resting in this game.
“They can be fresh for the third ODI. I think when you get someone out for 115, it’s a good effort from the bowlers. Our catching was impressive, but we can improve in certain areas. Instead of losing five wickets, we could have lost only two wickets and finished the last game. Sanju and Axar come in for Rohit and Virat,” said Hardik Pandya at the toss.
