West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed the team’s inconsistent performance after the 200-run loss against India in the final ODI of the three-match series. Shai Hope highlighted that sometimes they play like the best team in the world, but also face failures on other occasions.
The Windies conceded 351 runs to the Men in Blue after winning the toss at the Brian Lara Stadium on Tuesday, August 1. In response, the hosts were bowled out for just 151 runs. The Shai Hope-led team failed to break India’s 17-year unbeaten series win streak against them, losing 2-1.

Speaking after the match, Shai Hope stated that they restricted the opposition to a gettable total in the series decider. However, he admitted that they didn’t pose a challenge with the ball at the start.
“Hindsight is the best sight as I keep saying. We saw how the wicket was in the back end and I thought we restricted them well enough.
We can look back and change many things but it is what it is. We didn’t give them a challenge with the ball at the start,” Shai Hope said.
Alick Athanaze’s innings of 32 runs off 50 balls was the only double-digit score among the top seven batters. The home team lost eight wickets for just 88 runs, but Alzarri Joseph (26) and Gudakesh Motie (39) formed a partnership to guide the team past the 150-run mark.

Shai Hope emphasized the need for a consistent winning attitude to turn losses into victories, saying that the team has the potential to perform at its best.
“350 was a gettable total on that wicket, but today wasn’t our day. Anytime you play, you gotta believe you can win.
I keep stressing on that same thing – the consistency in attitude and the key is to get the guys together and turn some of these losses into wins. Some days we wake up and play like the best team in the world and some days we just get steamrolled,” he concluded.
The Men in Maroon bounced back after suffering a loss in the first ODI. They managed to bowl out the opposition for just 181 runs in the second match. However, they failed to continue their winning streak and seal the series.
