IND vs WI: Shubman Gill Has Shown Some Leadership Skills – Saba Karim

Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Saba Karim was highly impressed with the performance of the 22-year-old batter Shubman Gill in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

India National Cricket Team clean swept West Indies National Cricket Team in the three-match ODI series and young opener Gill performed brilliantly with the bat in all three games. Also, he won the Player of the Series Award.

The leading run-getter of the series, Gill, scored 205 runs in 3 innings at an average of 102.50. He fell just 2 runs short of a century in the third ODI as the rain interrupted the match.

Meanwhile, Karim said that Gill has got some leadership skills and he might lead an Indian Premier League (IPL) team in the coming years.

“I think it’s good to get some kind of experience. And I feel one year, two years around the line we may see Shubman elevated to lead one of these on the India T20 league. And I think once he gets that kind of experience, in addition, he can manage to lead Punjab at the domestic level that will really board well for him.

“So, he will gain experience and as you rightly said, he has shown some leadership skills. So that will really do well for Shubman Gill in future,” Karim was quoted as saying on SPORTS18’s daily sports news show ‘SPORTS OVER THE TOP’.

Former India wicketkeeper-batsman further said that Gill is a versatile player and he can become a successful middle-order batter for India.

“I look at him as a versatile player because, at this stage, one has seen him bat so well for India as an opener. But given the opportunity, I’m sure he can do well at number three, number four and I think mostly in the T20 format, you look at players who can bat number one, number two and number three. So, I think in that kind of a mould, Shubman Gill can fit in quite easily,” he added.
