Suryakumar Yadav, on Tuesday (August 8), starred with the bat to power India to an impressive 7-wicket win over West Indies in the must-win third T20I. Having lost the first two games of the five-match series, India needed to win the third game to keep the series alive and they responded in style.
Set a target of 160 runs, India started poorly with the bat as both of their openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Shubman Gill (6) – failed to do well. However, Suryakumar Yadav did not let West Indies capitalize on the early breakthroughs. He started playing the big shots right from ball one to push West Indies on the back foot.
He went on to score 83 runs off just 44 balls with the help of 10 fours and four sixes. On a pitch where most of the batsmen struggled to play the shots, he looked a class apart. Suryakumar Yadav also shared a decisive partnership of 87 runs with Tilak Varma who remained unbeaten on 49. India eventually crossed the finishing line in the 18th over.
