Suryakumar Yadav’s stunning display with the bat during the third T20I against West Indies on Tuesday (August 8) has not only surprised the fans and experts but also his teammate Tilak Varma.
On a pitch where stroke-making was not easy at all, Suryakumar Yadav looked a class apart. He took the West Indies bowlers to the cleaners to fire India to a 7-wicket win. The right-handed batsman walked out to bat after the fourth ball of the innings and hit the ground running.
He hit the last two balls of the over for a four and a six and did not look back after that. The world number one T20I batsman completed his fifty off just 23 balls and eventually scored 83 runs off just 44 balls. His knock was studded with 10 fours and 4 sixes. And as Suryakumar Yadav was taking the West Indies bowlers to the cleaners, Tilak Varma was watching it all from the other end.
The duo shared 87 runs for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav scoring most of the runs. As far as Tilak Varma is concerned, he scored an unbeaten 49 off 32 balls and helped Team India cross the finishing line in the 18th over.
Suryakumar Yadav’s promise for Tilak Varma:
After the game, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were involved in a candid conversation with each other. The video of the conversation was posted on social media by the BCCI. During the conversation, Suryakumar Yadav made a heartwarming promise to his younger teammate after the latter said he was stunned by his shot-making.
Tilak Varma asked Suryakumar Yadav how he was able to play such shots on such a difficult pitch. In reply, Suryakumar Yadav told the newcomer: “I will teach you in the dressing room.”
The youngster then went on to express his admiration for the knock, saying: “As soon as I walked into the dressing room after the match, I told Gill that I could not understand that innings by Surya bhai at all.
“While watching him bat, I thought that even I should try to score freely. I got good starts in the first two matches, and I could have played better in those matches. I spoke with Surya bhai while batting regarding this as well and I told him that I want to finish matches for the team.”
West Indies are currently leading the five-match series 2-1. Both teams will now head to the United States of America for the last two games, scheduled to be played on August 12 and 13.
