IND vs WI: Tilak Varma Becomes Second Indian Batter To Register 30 Plus Scores In His First Three T20I Innings

Young Indian middle-order batter Tilak Varma equaled his fellow teammate Suryakumar Yadav’s record during the third T20I match against the West Indies. Tilak Varma became the second Indian batter after Suryakumar Yadav to score 30 or more runs in each of his first three T20I innings.

Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten 49-run knock during India’s seven-wicket victory over the West Indies team in the third T20I match at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday, August 8. The victory in the must-win encounter kept the Men in Blue’s hopes alive in the five-match series.

Tilak Varma Equals Suryakumar Yadav’s Record

The left-handed batter made a remarkable international debut during the first T20I and continued his brilliant form into the remaining games. The Southpaw scored a quick-fire innings of 39 runs off 22 balls. He achieved his maiden half-century with a score of 51 runs in his second innings.

Suryakumar Yadav made his T20I debut against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in 2021. The right-handed batter registered scores of 57 runs, 32 runs, and 50 runs in his first three games. Notably, the two Indian batters scored 139 runs after their first three T20I matches.

India Registered First Win In Five-Match T20I Series

Earlier, the Hardik Pandya-led team restricted the opposition team to a total of 159/5 after losing the toss. Left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav continued to impress with his bowling and picked up three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs, including the in-form batter Nicholas Pooran.

In response, India lost their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (1) and Shubman Gill (6) for low scores. However, Tilak and Suryakumar batted with an aggressive approach and added an 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Skipper Hardik Pandya completed the run chase with a six.

The Indian team is currently trailing 1-2 in the ongoing five-match series. The Men in Blue will be hoping to level the series when they take on the Rovman Powell-led team in the fourth T20I at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida on Saturday, August 12.
