Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has opened up about middle-order batter Sanju Samson’s poor batting performances during the ongoing West Indies tour. Parthiv Patel highlighted that Sanju Samson failed to capitalize on the limited opportunities with the Indian team.

Sanju Samson failed to make the most of his chances ahead of the ODI World Cup in 2023. The right-handed batter scored a run-a-ball seven during the second T20I at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday, August 6. Earlier, he managed to score 12 runs in the series opener.

Time Is Running Out For Him – Parthiv Patel

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel pointed out the inconsistent performances of Sanju Samson, suggesting that his time in the squad may be running out.

“Every time India loses, we look at the negative points. Throughout the white-ball series, there has been talk about the need for batters to bat long and it is something that has been missing so far,” he told Cricbuzz.

“Every time Samson is not in the squad, we talk about him, but he has not cashed in on the opportunities he has availed of so far. Probably time is running out for him, maybes yes or maybe no,” he added.

Sanju Samson came to the crease in the 10th over of India’s innings, batting at the No. 5 position. He was unable to read Akeal Hosein’s delivery and got stumped by Nicholas Pooran.

Not Making The Most Of The Opportunities – Parthiv Patel

The cricketer-turned-commentator emphasized that Sanju Samson has been given several opportunities but has failed to capitalize on them.

“Samson has been getting a lot of opportunities, to be honest, he is just not making the most of the opportunities that he is getting. There was only one batter who looked comfortable and that was Tilak Varma.”

Sanju Samson’s performances have led to his decline in the pecking order, as he scored 320 runs in 18 T20Is with an average of 18.82 and a strike rate of 131.15.
