IND vs WI: Virat Kohli Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar To Achieve Incredible Feat In 500th International Game

Virat Kohli scored his 29th Test ton on day 2 of the Trinidad Test against West Indies. In the process, he broke several records and got into an elite class of his own. India scored a mammoth 438 and West Indies were 86/1 at stumps.

Earlier in the game, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (57) and Rohit Sharma (80) added a 139-run stand to set the platform once again. Virat Kohli who scored a splendid 76 in the first innings of the first Test took his opportunity in Trinidad.

He walked out to bat at number four and was unbeaten on 87 at stumps on day 1. He got to his hundred on day 2 and became the first cricketer to score a century in his 500th international game.

He got to his 100 and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 75 international hundreds after 500 first-class matches. Kohli now has 76 international tons after 500 games which takes him to the top of an elite list. Ricky Ponting (68) and Jacques Kallis (60) are below him on this list.

Virat Kohli Breaks Multiple Records On Day 2 In Trinidad

Kohli also pipped West Indies great Brian Lara in the list of batters with the most Test hundreds at number four. The former Indian skipper now has 25 Test tons batting at number four. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with 44, Jacques Kallis with 35, Mahela Jayawardene with 30, and Lara 24.

The former Indian skipper went past his former RCB teammate AB De Villiers in terms of most international hundreds against West Indies. Kohli now has 12 international hundreds against West Indies surpassing ABD’s 11. Sunil Gavaskar has 13 international tons against the WIndies while Kallis has 12.

Kohli was unfortunately run-out for 121 from a direct throw from Alzarri Joseph. He looked back at his knock after the day’s play. He expressed on playing 500 international matches for his country which now makes him the fourth Indian to get to that milestone after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni.

“I’m really grateful. I feel blessed that I’ve had such a long journey playing for India and such a long Test career because I really had to work hard for it. It really makes you feel happy about the hard work that you have put in. You see the longevity in the game and the results over the years as well. I’m very grateful,” Kohli said.
