The 20-year-old India National Cricket Team batter Tilak Varma started off his international cricket career with back-to-back maximums at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on Thursday, August 03.
Tilak Varma made his T20I debut in the first T20I of the India tour of West Indies 2023. He received his debut cap from captain Hardik Pandya ahead of the match.
Tilak came out to bat at No.4 during the run-chase after the dismissal of the wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan. He faced the first ball of his international career against left-arm pacer Obed McCoy in the fifth over and wasn’t able to get off the mark.
The 20-year-old kicked off his innings in a grand fashion as he smoked Alzarri Joseph for a marvelous six on the fourth ball of the 6th over. The pacer looked disappointed after conceding the six and gave a death stare to the batter.
However, Tilak Varma was not done there as he hit the very next ball for a six over deep mid-wicket. Joseph almost looked in disbelief after getting smashed for boundaries.

Tilak Varma played a brilliant knock in his debut match. He scored 39 runs off 22 balls, with 2 fours and 3 sixes, before being dismissed by Romario Shepherd.
Earlier, after handing the debut cap to Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya told the youngster to follow the same process that has worked for him over the years.
“This is what dreams are made of. Mehanat karke yahan par aaya hai. Kuch alag nahi karna hai. Same cheez yahin par karega life mein aur aage jayega (You have come here after putting in a lot of effort. Need not to do something different. Just follow the same process here and you will go places in life). Good luck and be proud of yourself,” Pandya told Tilak.
