West Indies skipper Rovman Powell expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance in the nine-wicket loss to India in the fourth T20I. Rovman Powell admitted that the batters failed to put pressure on the quality Indian bowling attack in the penultimate match of the series.

The Men in Maroon managed to score 179 runs after opting to bat first at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida on Saturday, August 12. Shimron Hetmyer shone with the bat and scored 61 runs off 39 deliveries, including three boundaries and four sixes.

This Is A Pretty Good Batting Surface – Rovman Powell

Speaking after the match, Rovman Powell said that they were 10 to 15 runs short with the bat, highlighting that the pitch was pretty good for batting.

“I think this is a pretty good batting surface. We were around 10-15 runs short. Given that, Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope batted well.

You know, we do have a quality bowlers on our side but it was high-quality batters whom we were up against. We didn’t stick to our plans and felt the pressure of bowling to quality batters,” said Powell.

The hosts lost their four wickets for just 57 runs, including the dangerous batter Nicholas Pooran. Shai Hope scored 45 runs off 29 balls. Hetmyer scored crucial runs in the death overs to propel the team’s total to 178 runs from a challenging position of 123-7.

We Didn’t Bat Well In The Middle Overs – Rovman Powell

The Windies skipper said that the batters struggled against Indian spinners in the middle overs and expressed hope for an improved performance in the series decider.

“Always it comes down to spin, how we bat against their spinners. We didn’t bat well in the middle overs.

If we can improve against spin, then we’ll do well. Yeah, it’s 2-2 as of now and tomorrow it’s a final and I will back West Indies in the final,” Powell added.

In the run chase, the Hardik Pandya-led team completed the run chase with 17 balls to spare. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill (77) added a 165-run partnership for the first wicket. Jaiswal scored an unbeaten half-century of 84 runs off 51 deliveries, including 11 fours and three sixes.
