History will be created in September when Ruturaj Gaikwad leads Team India in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. While men’s cricket is not new to the competition, the Indian men’s team will be playing in the competition for the very first time.

With the World Cup to begin in October, the BCCI has named a second-string side for the multi-sports event. The tournament will be giving the youngsters an opportunity to impress the selectors. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the team that will have several new faces like Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Prabhsimran Singh, and several other new names.

Just like any other youngster, Jitesh Sharma will also look to impress. The wicketkeeper-batsman is one of the several uncapped players in the team and a good performance in the Asian Games will do his reputation a world of good. The matches will be played in the T20 format and Jitesh Sharma has already proved himself in this format by doing well in the IPL.

Jitesh Sharma recalls a conversation with coach Rahul Dravid:

While Jitesh Sharma is yet to play an international game, the call-up for the Asian Games is not his first one from the national team. Earlier this year, he earned his maiden call-up for the home T20I series against Sri Lanka. However, he could not get a chance in the team as the team management preferred Ishan Kishan.

Jitesh Sharma will be hoping to make his debut in the Asian Games. And ahead of the games, the wicketkeeper-batsman has revealed an interesting conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid.

“What do you think Jitesh, why are you here?” Dravid had asked Jitesh, the wicketkeeper told ABP News in an interview.

“I said my strength is my strike rate, I have the ability to score quick runs, and that is why I am here. Rahul sir then told me that yes, you have to do the same thing and you can really think differently since you are about to play for India. Keep on playing your natural cricket and eventually, you will get to learn a lot of things,” the 29-year-old stated.
