Hardik Pandya-led India failed to clinch a win in the fifth T20I match on Sunday (August 13) and lost the match against West Indies by eight wickets. This is for the first time in history that India lost a five-match T20I.

The Men in Blues won the toss and went to bat first but failed to give a big score. Indian star openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill failed to score runs in the fifth T20I match.

Shubman Gill made nine runs from nine balls with a strike rate of 100.00. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored five from four balls with a strike rate of 125.00. Both the openers hammered only one boundary each.

Only Suryakumar Yadav shined with the bat in the first inning and scored 61 runs from 45 balls and helped the visitors give a target of 166 runs.

In the second inning, the Men in Blues displayed a disappointing performance with the ball. Only Arshdeep Singh and Tilak Varma managed to scalp one wicket each.

While speaking to The Telegraph, former West Indies player, Ramnaresh Sarwan said that the Caribbeans need to learn from the young Indian players in making the right approach and taking risks in a game.

“The one aspect they need to learn from the Indians is having the right approach. The right approach is about taking calculated risks. There’s a thin line dividing aggressive batting and reckless shot-making. There’s a thought process behind taking calculated risks,” told Sarwan.

The 43-year-old heaped praise on the young Indian opening duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal and said that they are an excellent find for India.

“Jaiswal has been an excellent find for India and so is Gill. This does prove that Indian cricket is well-placed and in good hands. So, interesting times ahead for Indian cricket,” added Sarwan.

A lot of credit goes to the IPL…: Ramnaresh Sarwan on Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill

Sarwan gave all the credit to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the growth and development of these young players which helped them to perform in international cricket.

“A lot of credit for the growth and development of these guys goes to the IPL, which has enabled them to showcase their talent before international cricketers and perform in pressure situations,” the 43-year-old further added.

However, the Men in Blues expected more from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in the series decider after they portrayed a class performance and made a partnership of 165 runs in the fourth T20I match.

In the fourth T20I match, Yashasvi scored 84 runs from 51 balls with a strike rate of 164.71 and Gill made 77 runs from 47 balls with a strike rate of 163.83.
