Former Indian pacer RP Singh expressed his delight with the batting performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill in the fourth T20I against the West Indies. RP Singh highlighted that Yashasvi Jaiswal allowed his partner Shubman Gill to take some time before shifting gears.

The Indian bowlers restricted the Windies team to 178 runs in Florida on Saturday, August 12. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill added a 165-run partnership in just 15.3 overs. The visitors registered a comprehensive nine-wicket victory to level the ongoing five-match series at 2-2.

They Dominated The Entire Match – RP Singh

Speaking to JioCinema, RP Singh highlighted that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill dominated against West Indies bowlers throughout the match.

“I liked the partnership a lot. They dominated the entire match. The good thing about the partnership is that when one batter was not in that good form or rhythm, the other batter took charge. Yashasvi Jaiswal did that and gave Shubman Gill the opportunity to take his time,” RP Singh told JioCinema.

The Men in Blue got off to a flying start in the run chase, scoring 66 runs during the powerplay. The Indian team registered first-wicket partnership scores of 5 runs, 16 runs, and 6 runs in the first three matches.

Shubman Gill’s Series Had Not Been Too Good – RP Singh

The cricketer-turned-commentator highlighted that Shubman Gill made the most of the flat batting conditions, adding that the start from Yashasvi Jaiswal released the pressure on him.

“A lot of things might have been playing in Shubman Gill’s mind. His series had not been too good thus far. So he would have also been thinking that this wicket is slightly to his liking, where there is pace and bounce, so why not utilize that?”

“You don’t get such wickets very often. The last few wickets were not that good. So Shubman Gill’s bat also fired a little along with Yashasvi Jaiswal because he did not have that much pressure on him as the batter at the other end was batting destructively.”

Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 51 balls, while Gill contributed 77 runs off 47 balls. The left-handed batter was named Player of the Match for his maiden half-century in T20I cricket.
