After two enthralling and exciting games between Indian women and Australian women, it was time for the third game. The series decider between the teams took place at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

India women were put into bat first and they had a rollicking start with the bat in powerplay. Shefali Varma and Smriti Mandhana gave a blistering start and put the bowlers under pressure right from the first over.

The duo added 39 runs for the opening stand before Meghan Schutt removed Shafali Varma for 26 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues, who came to bat at No.3, didn’t have the kind of outing she would’ve wanted as she managed just 2 runs to her name.

After the wicket of Jemimah, India women lost well-set Smriti Mandhana for 29 runs. This got even worse for them when skipper Harmanpreet Kaur perished too. The captain’s poor run of form continued as she was castled by Annabelle Sutherland.

Deepti Sharma tried to get going and looked good but carry on the start she got. The all-rounder managed 14 runs before Georgia Wareham removed her. Richa Ghosh on the other end looked like the only settled batter from India as she played well and kept India’s women in the game.

Rich Ghosh managed 34 runs off 28 balls that bailed Indian women out of trouble. A vital hand by Amanjot Kaur (17*) in the end made sure that the hosts posted a total of 147 runs on the board.

For Australia, Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers as she returned with the figures of 2/12. Wareham also chipped in with two scalps whereas Megan Schutt and Ashleigh Gardner bagged one scalp each.

Australian women then were off the flying start as they put opponents under immense pressure and asserted their authority right from the start. Skipper Alyssa Healy (55) slammed a magnificent half-century at the top and made sure she took her team off the dominating start.

Healy along with Beth Mooney added 85 runs for the opening partnership before Deepti Sharma trapped the Australian skipper in lbw. After that, Tahlia McGarth (20) chipped and added a vital partnership with Mooney. But Pooja Vastrakar brought her team back into the game.

Pooja removed Tahlia and then on the very next ball removed Ellyse Perry. However, Beth Mooney (52*) made sure that she stayed there till the end and powered her team to victory. Phoebe Litchfield (17*) supported her well as Australia women completed a comfortable 7-wicket win and clinched the series.

For India Women, Pooja Vastrakar was the pick of the bowlers with her figures of 2/26. She tried her best to keep her team in the game but it wasn’t enough as she didn’t get the desired support from the other end.

Australia Women clinched the series by the margin of 2-1. After facing a thrashing loss in the first game, they made a strong comeback and made sure that they won the next two games on the trot.

Brief scores

India women: 147/6 (Richa Ghosh 34; Annabelle Sutherland 2/12)
