Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty was not impressed by Harmanpreet Kaur’s antics followed by whatever happened in the third ODI between India and Bangladesh women. The series ended in a draw after India won the first ODI, Bangladesh the second, and the third ended in a draw.

Harmanpreet Kaur broke the stumps after being wrongly given out by the on-field umpire. She had a word with the two umpires on her way back to the pavilion.

After the game, Kaur told the Bangladesh captain to ask the umpires to join them in the photo session since they had helped Bangladesh to level the series. Harmanpreet’s words were not taken lightly by Joty and she finally kept her opinion on the same.

What They Did Does Not Leave A Good Message: Nigar Sultana Joty

Having spoken in the press conference about how she didn’t appreciate that attitude from an otherwise highly-respected cricketer on the international stage, Sultana opened up about it once again in an interview with the Daily Star.

“We expected appreciation from them and some words of encouragement which would have motivated our players. But what they did certainly does not leave a good message. The two teams were standing for the photo session and there was no point saying such a thing in front of the players as they could complain to the match referee according to the rules” said the captain said the Bangladesh women’s captain.

“Obviously, it felt bad when they were not showing respect. So, I felt there was no point in standing there as I respect my teammates and I can’t accept that,” said Sultana on what they pulled out of the photo session.

It was a herculean effort from the Bangladesh bowlers to take the last six Indian wickets cheaply with the final wicket coming with scores tied. A remarkable achievement in Bangladesh women’s cricket history was however outdone by Harmanpreet’s on-field conduct.

The Indian captain is set to be fined 75% of her match fees and will earn 4 demerit points as well. This also means Harmanpreet Kaur is at risk of missing the first two games of the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
