The India A team will tour New Zealand in August ahead of the senior team's multi-format series later this year, as per PTI. The tour includes three List A matches and two first-class games, giving players valuable experience in overseas conditions before India's important assignment later in the year.
The tour will give emerging talents and Test hopefuls valuable match practice in New Zealand conditions before the senior team's arrival. Strong performances could also help players push for selection, with India set to play T20Is, ODIs, and a two-match Test series between October 22 and December 1.
Selectors Monitor Pace and Spin Options for Future Tours
The India A tour of New Zealand will give the selectors another chance to assess the country's fast-bowling depth. Several players are expected to feature as India continue building a larger pool for overseas assignments.
Mayank Yadav is likely to get an extended run after returning to full fitness. Gurnoor Brar and Ashok Sharma are also expected to be closely watched as they look to strengthen their chances of earning senior team call-ups.
The selectors are also monitoring India's wrist-spin options ahead of a busy international schedule. Zeeshan Ansari has emerged as one of the players on their radar, and a strong performance in domestic cricket and the Duleep Trophy could improve his chances of higher honours.
India Senior Team to Begin Sri Lanka Tour in August
The senior Indian team will begin its tour of Sri Lanka in August. The squad is expected to leave on August 4 or 5 to begin preparations for the upcoming multi-format series.
The team management has planned an early arrival to help the players adjust to Sri Lankan conditions. The extra time will allow the squad to adapt to the weather, pitches, and match conditions before the competitive fixtures begin.
India will also play a three or four-day warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Board President's XI from August 8. The practice game will be the team's final preparation before the opening Test, which is scheduled to begin on August 15.
Journalist Shares Major Team India Selection Updates
Press Trust of India (PTI) cricket correspondent Kushan Sarkar shared key updates on India's selection plans for the upcoming tours. He explained the reasons behind resting senior players, the plans for returning fast bowlers, and the India A tour of New Zealand.
He wrote:
"Sanju Samson wouldn't have played in Zimbabwe. Decision makers didn't want a senior player to just go and cool heels. Others rested because Eng ODI series ends on July 19. Mayank Yadav is fit for 20 over cricket. Just like Gurnoor Brar in red ball and ODI, panel thought best chance to give a full series to Mayank and Ashok Sharma is this tour."
"India Sr team to leave for SL on Aug 4 or 5. They will play a warm-up game (3 or 4 day) from Aug 8. India A likely to go on shadow tour of New Zealand. 2 'A' Tests and 3 List A 50 over games before main series. As of now pool of wrist spinners is near about empty. Hence Zeeshan Ansari without any FC game for 6 years played India A. Selectors want to see him in Duleep too if CZ panel picks him."
