The deadly contagion that is Covid-19 seems to have rocked the Indian contingent in England as news has emerged that at least two members of the touring party have been diagnosed with the Wuhan virus.

The news of an unnamed Indian player testing positive for Covid emerged in the media on Thursday morning and it was later confirmed that the player in question is the 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant.

According to reports, Pant had contracted the virus 8 days ago during his stay at a relative’s place.

However, it has now emerged that throwdown specialist Dayanand Garani has also tested positive for the virus.

Hence, the Indian squad that assembled in London during the last couple of days, has traveled to Durham without five members of the squad.

Apart from Rishabh Pant and Dayanand Garani, it has been learned that bowling coach Bharat Arun, standby opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, and stumper Wriddhiman Saha have been isolated after having come in close contact with throwdown specialist Garani.

According to a report published in the Hindu, the three members who came in close contact with Garani have tested negative but they have been asked to stay in isolation till Sunday.

The trio will once again be tested on Sunday and if they return negative again, then they will be allowed to join the bubble in Durham on Monday.

The spurt of Covid cases has jeopardized India’s preparation for the upcoming Test series against England.

The Virat Kohli-led contingent will square off against a County select XI in a three-day warm-up game in Durham from Tuesday.
