After Manoj Tiwary, another former Indian cricketer, Priyank Panchal, lashed out at the assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate over his recent remarks on Rohit Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s form.
A fresh controversy has erupted in Indian cricket as former cricketers openly demanded the removal of Ten Doeschate for his post-match assessment on the former captain Rohit Sharma and young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy after the Men in Blue’s seven-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the second ODI in Rajkot.
Priyank Panchal blasts Ryan Ten Doeschate over Rohit Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy comments
In the first two matches, Rohit Sharma scored 26 and 24 runs against New Zealand, and Ten Doeschate suggested that the Indian captain was short of game time and still trying to get back into rhythm. He pointed out that even though Rohit had played a couple of matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, he was not as fluent as usual.

Ryan ten Doeschate said at the post-match press conference in Rajkot, “Rohit, I thought tonight, particularly, both innings were a real new-ball wicket. It didn’t look easy to bat. Over a short period of time, if you take the first ODI, he (Rohit) has not been as fluent as he has been, and that’s going to be a challenge for him, not playing cricket between series.”
Ten Doeschate slams Nitish Kumar Reddy for wasting a big opportunity
Not just Rohit Sharma, Ten Doeschate also criticized Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored just 20 runs and did not take any wickets in his two overs, as New Zealand easily chased down the target of 284 in Rajkot. The assistant coach said that the team talks about giving Nitish opportunities and developing him, but the youngster often does not make a big impact when he gets a chance.
The former Netherlands all-rounder added that the second ODI against the Black Caps was the perfect situation for Nitish to play a long innings and show that he deserves regular selection in the playing XI, but he failed to take that chance.
Ten Doeschate further added, “With Nitish, we keep talking about developing him and getting him game time, and then when you do get him game time, he often ends up not doing a heck of a lot in the games. For someone who’s making their way, particularly with the bat tonight, it was that perfect chance where you’re walking in that situation and you’ve got a chance to spend 15 overs at the wicket. You really have to take those chances to push your case to be selected.”

There’s a reason foreign coaches don’t succeed in India: Priyank Panchal
These remarks triggered a strong reaction from former Indian cricketer Priyank Panchal. The India A coach criticized Ten Doeschate’s comments about both Rohit Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy, saying that foreign coaches often struggle in India because they do not understand the importance of managing relationships in the dressing room.
He also took a dig at the Dutch cricketer’s achievements, as he felt his blunt public criticism was harder to accept given the latter’s record both as a player and coach.
Priyank Panchal posted on X: “Terrible comments by Ten Doeschate on Rohit and Nitish. There’s a reason foreign coaches don’t succeed in India. The dexterity you require to navigate through relationships here is lacking in them. Especially if they don’t have anything notable to show in their CV. #INDvNZ”
