India equal embarrassing ODI world record without playing a ball in Champions Trophy 2025

India created a bizarre record even before the first ball was bowled during their opening Champions Trophy match against Bangladesh in Dubai. India's captain Rohit Sharma lost the toss to Bangladesh's captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who elected to bat first.

They have now lost 11 tosses in a row in ODI cricket. The streak started in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia. The last time they won a toss in ODI cricket was in the World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai.

India equal bizarre record before the match vs Bangladesh

As Rohit Sharma lost the toss against Bangladesh in Dubai, his team lost 11 tosses in a row. The Men in Blue have equalled a world record for losing the most no. of tosses in a row in ODI cricket.

It's the joint-longest sequence for a team to lose the tosses in ODIs alongside Netherlands, who lost 11 tosses from March 2011 to August 2013.

Captains involved in this streak

From the ODI World Cup 2023 final till now, India played a three-match ODI series each in South Africa and Sri Lanka. In six matches played across both the series, the Men in Blue lost all the tosses.

In the recent ODI series against England played at home, captain Rohit Sharma lost all the tosses. However, they were able to inflict a clean-sweep on the visitors.

Rohit Sharma was the captain in all these games except for the three ODIs played against South Africa. KL Rahul led the team in South Africa in Rohit's absence but lost the toss in all the three matches.

If they lose one more toss in the upcoming game against Pakistan, they will lost 12 tosses in a row. As a result, they will create an unwanted record of losing the most tosses by a team in ODIs.

India's form ahead of Champions Trophy 2025

The Men in Blue come into the Champions Trophy 2025 on the back of an important ODI series win against England at home. Rohit Sharma and his men were highly dominant in the series as they didn't let England to settle down.

After playing Bangladesh, they will play the arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23 on the same ground. Their last match will be played against New Zealand on March 2.

While all the other teams will play in Pakistan, India's matches will be played in Dubai due to the tournament being played in a hybrid model. Even if they reach the knockout stage, the Men in Blue will continue to play in Dubai.

The Men in Blue come into the tournament as big favorites. They were excellent in the last 50-over ICC tournament, which was the World Cup 2023. They made it to the final of the tournament under the leadership of Rohit Sharma but lost to Australia in the summit clash.
