India Got Their Act Together Largely Because Rahul Dravid Picked Our Brains And Replicated In Their System: Greg Chappell

Former Australian batsman and Indian head coach Greg Chappell has expressed dissatisfaction as he lamented the country’s cricketing system in their ability to identify talent. Australia’s disastrous Test summer of 2020-21 has opened up plenty of questions, especially ahead of their Ashes defence later this year. Greg Chappell believes that Australia has fallen way behind India and England and opines that the former has replicated their formula for designing a robust domestic stricture and identifying the best talents across the country.
Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has groomed plenty of youngsters as the head coach of India A and Under-19 teams. Such players are currently shining for India or are on the road to doing so. Dravid presently works at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and works in the development of several players. It was evident in the Indian team series victory against Australia and England as plenty of fringe players made a significant impact.
Greg Chappell revealed that India have become one of the top-notch sides mainly due to Rahul Dravid picking their brains and replicating the same in India. The 72-year old told that the 164-Test veteran doing it with a larger population base has made it more effective.
“India have got their act together and that’s largely because (India’s academy chief and former Test captain) Rahul Dravid has picked our brains, seen what we’re doing and replicated it in India and with their much larger (population) base,” Chappell told cricket.com.au.
We cannot afford to lose one player: Greg Chappell
Greg Chappell claimed that their system of developing the best young players and keeping them in reserve has passed by in the last two years. The South Australian feels that a handful of players have overlooked or ignored in the recent past and says that they cannot afford to do that.
“Historically, we’ve been one of the best at developing young players and keeping them in the system, but I think that’s changed in the last couple of years. I’m seeing a bunch of young players with great potential who are in limbo. That’s unacceptable. We cannot afford to lose one player,” he added.
