Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to consider a major shake-up across several departments involving both men's and women's national cricket teams. This time, the PCB chief, Mohsin Naqvi, has reportedly initiated a process himself to consider multiple changes to bring both teams back on the right track. According to the latest media reports, Aaqib Javed's job at the PCB is also at risk.
Recently published media reports have indicated a possible shake-up in the national selection committee and the coaching setup of their men's and women's national cricket teams. Aaqib Javed, who is believed to be one of the close aides of Naqvi, may have to struggle to save his job.
Why does Mohsin Naqvi's PCB want to make several changes?
Over the months, multiple former Pakistan national cricket team coaches, including Jason Gillespie, and some of the former Pakistan cricketers have accused Javed of the recent downfall of Pakistan cricket at the highest level of the game. Pakistan cricket came under a series of serious scrutiny after their disappointing performance in England. The Pakistan cricket team batters failed massively in the entire series.
The Babar Azam-led team was defeated by the England national cricket team by 3-0 in a three-match Test series. The women's cricket team also failed to do anything significant in the recently concluded Women's Asian Cup 2026. In the group stage of the tournament, they bowled out only for 55 runs against the arch-rivals India, and then crashed out of the tournament before reaching the final.
Mohsin Naqvi is likely to take some radical measures
Latest media reports claim Mohsin Naqvi has finally realised the need to look beyond Aaqib Navi, who has been involved in most of the major decisions taken around the national cricket team, including excluding seven cricketers and the head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and his assistant Umar Gul from the Test set-up in themid-ways of the Test series in England.
Mike Hesson, the white-ball coach, who replaced Ahmed as the Test team coach on an interim basis, is also reportedly under the scanner of PCB. Wahab Riaz, the former Pakistan fast bowler, who has been working as a mentor with the national women's team since last year, could also be released from his duties after the conclusion of the 2026 Asia Cup in Japan.
"Even Mohsin Naqvi has now realized that some radical measures are required to end the losing streak and abrupt happenings in Pakistan cricket. So these changes are now on the cards," a source close to the latest development in Pakistan cricket informed India Today.
Mohsin Naqvi to hold a high-level meeting
Mohsin Naqvi is yet to take final decisions on possible sackings and replacements in both the men's and women's cricket teams. The cricket board chief is expected to hold a high-profile meeting with the other top officials before finalizing the next steps.
"Naqvi will soon hold a high-level meeting with his aides and also take the governing board members into confidence before final decisions are made on the changes," the source further added.
