Recently retired Indian women’s cricketer Mithali Raj believes that Harmanpreet Kaur-led side is more than capable of finishing the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham with a medal.

Ahead of the event, Indian women comfortably defeated Sri Lanka in a white-ball series. The preparation has been great and therefore, the hopes for a medal at the Games have increased tenfold.

In the T20 format, the margin of error is very less. As such, the preparation part is very important. We have a very strong team. If we get the plans in place beforehand, I feel this Indian side is capable of finishing on the podium in CWG,” Mithali said.

Harmanpreet bagged the Player of the Series awards in both ODIs and T20Is and her performance will increase the confidence of the rest of the team.

She has a rich experience. She has led the side previously too. In November 2016, she replaced me as captain of the T20 side for the series against West Indies. Hence, it’s not a new role for her. Her performance is encouraging and will surely boost the team,” she added.

It’s a good sign. I feel things are improving all over the world. It will take some time but we are appraoching a situation where there will be no difference between men’s and women’s games,” she concluded.
