Team India's poor luck with the toss continued as captain Shubman Gill made the wrong call once again on Thursday (October 23) for the second ODI against Australia in Adelaide.
In what seems like an incredible streak of bad luck, the Men in Blue have now lost the toss in each of their last 17 ODIs.
Even the change in captaincy has not changed the team's fortunes as far as the toss is concerned. Gill has now lost both tosses as captain since replacing Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain.
Men in Blue unchanged
While tosses are seen as a matter of chance, India's scarcely believable streak has left many shocked. India are already the record holder for losing the most consecutive tosses in ODIs, and the streak is showing little signs of coming to an end.

The record was previously held by the Netherlands, who had lost 11 tosses in a row between 2011 and 2013. India, on the other hand, is now far ahead of the previous record.
Their streak began in 2023 when Rohit lost the toss during the World Cup final against Australia. Since then, India have done extremely well in the 50-over format but have just not managed to win the toss.
Here is a list showing teams losing the most consecutive tosses in ODIs:
Team | Consecutive tosses lost | From | To |
India | 17* | 19 November 2023 | 23 October 2025 |
Netherlands | 11 | 18 March 2011 | 27 August 2013 |
England | 9 | 27 January 2023 | 13 September 2023 |
USA | 9 | 29 May 2022 | 13 August 2022 |
England | 9 | 22 January 2017 | 29 May 2017 |
West Indies | 9 | 13 October 2011 | 16 March 2012 |
Australia | 9 | 06 November 1998 | 24 January 0199 |
India eye series-levelling win:
While the toss did not go their way, India will be desperate to ensure that they end on the right side of the result in the second ODI as they look to draw level. With Australia winning the first ODI of the three-match series, the tourists need to win the ongoing game at any cost to keep the series alive.
Speaking at toss, captain Gill said: "We would have bowled first as well. Happy to bat first. Never easy when it rains, starting and stopping. The weather looks good today, hopefully no stoppages today.
"Batting first, hopefully we'll get plenty of runs on the board. And then get some movement under lights when we have the ball in our hands. We are going with the same team," he added.
Even #RaviShastri is shocked by #TeamIndia's luck with the coin flip! 🤔
