Team India would be eyeing their second T20 World Cup, having won the inaugural edition of the league in 2007. It will be another opportunity for them to end their ICC title drought. They haven’t won a single title since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013 in England under MS Dhoni.
In 2023, India lost two ICC events in the ICC World Test Championship and World Cup 2023. They reached the final in both events but lost to Australia on both occasions. In the last two T20 World Cups, they weren’t up to mark and bagged some disappointing losses.
In the T20 World Cup 2021, they suffered a group-stage exit and then in 2022 were thrashed by England in the semi-final. However, this time around, they would be hoping to change their fortunes and end the long wait for the ICC title.
All the eyes are on the BCCI as to what squad they will name. Since the last T20 World Cup, a lot of youngsters have got opportunities with no signs of seniors. There have been a lot of reports recently that have suggested about the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the T20I setup. It remains to be seen what will be the roadmap of the Team for the event.
