India has a jam-packed schedule ahead with the Asia Cup 2025, a white ball tour of Bangladesh, and the home Test series against West Indies in October.

This article talks about the predicted 17-member squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in September.

India Squad for Asia Cup 2025

Openers: Sanju Samson (wk), Abhishek Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill

India is expected to go with four openers in the squad, namely Sanju Samson, and Abhishek Sharma, both of whom have been a constant part of the T20I team since Gautam Gambhir took over.

Other than Samson and Abhishek, there is a possibility of India's Test captain Shubman Gill, and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also finding a place in the 17-member squad.

Both Yashasvi and Shubman haven't played a T20I game after 2024 and will hope to find their name in the team after scoring runs in the 2025 season of the IPL.

The Indian selectors will have a problem of plenty as far as choosing the opening pair for the playing XI is concerned, with all four contenders being in great form.

If we go by how Gautam Gambhir approaches a series or a tournament. The former opener is known for thinking out of the box.

The evidence of this has been visible quite a few times in his stint as the head coach of the team so far.

An interesting fact about all four opening batters is that all of them have scored at least one century in T20I cricket.

Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Sai Sudharshan, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar

There are a lot of contenders for the middle-order batting, with the likes of Sai Sudharshan and Tilak Varma being the front runners.

The other question that the team management will need to answer is who bats at number five, with Suryakumar Yadav taking the number four slot.

The toss-up will be between Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant. Pandya might be able to pip Rishabh due to his bowling if the Suryakumar Yadav-led side decides to go with Sanju Samson as the opener.

The Indian team, with Gautam Gambhir at the helm, had gone with four proper bowlers, including one specialist fast bowler, Arshdeep Singh, in the T20I series against England.

It would be interesting to see if the defending T20 World Cup champions decide to stick with the same bowling combination or bring in something new.

Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana

The bowling is expected to be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, who will surely make a comeback into India's scheme of things in T20Is, having not played a T20I match since the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Bumrah will be helped by the team's leading wicket-taker in T20I cricket, Arshdeep Singh, who has been a regular feature in the team since making his debut in 2022.

As far as the third fast bowler's spot is concerned, it is expected to be grabbed by Harshit Rana, who had an impressive outing in the T20I series against England.

The Men in Blue are expected to go with two two-seam bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy, with Kuldeep, Washington, and Axar taking care of India's spin bowling department.
