India skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are to hold a crucial meeting on Monday (August 21st), following which they will be going to hold a press conference where they are likely to reveal the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup 2023.

According to a report by the Times of India, Rohit Sharma-led India will be having a 15-member provisional squad at first and later can include two more players depending on the situation and make a group of 17 players for the ODI World Cup which is supposed to begin from October 5th.

However, the Men in Blues are likely to make a squad of 17 members for the upcoming Asia Cup which will kick off from September 30th.

The 17-member squad decision is being taken by the team management since the main focus of Rohit Sharma and other team members is to keep space for KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer once they are fully fit to take part in a competitive and include them in the team then.

KL Rahul suffered a thigh injury during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) when the player had to leave the field mid-way and later went through surgery which forced him out of the squad for months.

But Rahul is currently in his rehabilitation program at National Cricket Academy (NCA) and taking part in practice matches,

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer last played a competitive match in the fourth match of the Border Gavaskar trophy, following which he failed to make it into the squad after his back injury.

On a good note both the players are recovering well, but still have not received a full fit certificate from the NCA doctors and it is quite understandable that the team management is waiting for that only.

Shreyas Iyer is on-track for India selection: Rohit Sharma

A few weeks back, the India skipper gave the fans a crucial update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury and said that the star middle-order batsman is on track to fully recover from the injury.

“Shreyas Iyer is on the track to full fitness, so fingers crossed for World Cup,” Rohit Sharma said in an event.
India will start their ODI World Cup 2023 voyage against Australia on October 8th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
