The much-awaited ICC ODI World Cup is just over a month away. The thirteenth edition of the World Cup is scheduled to be played from October 5 to November 19. Teams have already started announcing their provisional squad for the tournament and Team India are likely to follow suit soon.

The deadline to submit the provisional squad to the ICC is September 5. And according to a report in India Today, the BCCI is likely to announce Team India’s World Cup squad on Sunday (September 3). The report stated that the BCCI is set to announce a final 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup. The squad will be announced on the day after the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023.

The selectors are likely to name reserve players in the squad as few players are returning to action after long injury layoffs. Teams are allowed to make changes to their squad till September 28. After the Asia Cup, India will take on Australia in a three-match ODI series before the World Cup. The selectors could use the series to make a few changes to the final World Cup squad. The series is scheduled to be played from September 21 to 27.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar has already made it clear that there will not be too many surprises in the World Cup squad. After announcing the Asia Cup squad, he had said: “Fifth is the deadline, and we’ll get to look at the players as a short camp, followed by a couple of games before we announce the actual squad. But, uh, yeah, it will obviously be around these guys on it.”

India gear up for a busy period:

Team India are gearing up for a busy couple of months or so as they will be fighting it out in the Asia Cup and the World Cup. Rohit Sharma and his teammates will leave for Sri Lanka this week for the upcoming Asia Cup. The continental championship is scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 17.

India will play their first game in the tournament on September 2 when they take on Pakistan in Pallekele. After the Asia Cup, the Men in Blue will welcome Australia for a three-match ODI series before taking part in the highly-anticipated World Cup.

Three days after the tournament gets underway with the match between reigning champions England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad, India will open their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
