India Squad For New Zealand T20Is Announced: Hardik Pandya To Captain Team India

The BCCI, on Monday, announced Team India’s squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. Team India are scheduled to visit New Zealand next month for three T20Is and as many One-Day Internationals.

The tour will kickstart with the T20I leg. The first match of the three-match series is scheduled to be played on November 18 in Wellington while the second and third matches are scheduled to be held on November 20 and November 22 respectively. The ODI series will kickstart on November 25 in Auckland while the tour will come to an end with the third and final ODI on November 30.

India squad announced:

As expected, the selectors have rested a number of senior players for India’s tour of New Zealand in 2022. The series is scheduled to begin just 5 days after the final of the ongoing T20 World Cup. India are currently looking destined to make it to the semifinals which are scheduled to be played on November 9 and 10. The Men in Blue have started their campaign with 2 wins from the first three games.

Talking about the squad, skipper Rohit Sharma has been rested along with the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Dinesh Karthik. In Rohit’s absence, allrounder Hardik Pandya has been named as the captain of the team while Rishabh Pant has been named as the vice-captain.

Sanju Samson has been recalled to the side as the backup wicketkeeper while Shubman Gill has earned his maiden T20I call-up. With both Rahul and Rohit rested, Gill is likely to open the innings alongside Ishan Kishan. Shreyas Iyer has also returned to the T20I squad. Other players who have earned a recall are Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Umran Malik.
