India, despite having lost their last series against New Zealand at home, is still at the top of the ICC Men's ODI Rankings. This annual ranking includes performances between May 2025 and 2026.
India is one of the strongest one-day sides in the world, and under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, they maintained an unbeaten streak across ICC tournaments, like the ICC World Cup 2023, when they won ten matches in a row to reach the finals, before a defeat to world champions Australia.
However, in recent times, Shubman Gill, the youngster, took over as the captain of the side. Having captained them since the Australia tour in 2025, India have lost both series under Gill's captaincy, while their only win in recent times came under KL Rahul's leadership.
India remains at the top of the ICC Men's ODI team rankings.
India has retained its spot at the top of the ICC Men's ODI team rankings after the latest updates have been made to the rankings. New Zealand are currently second on the points tally, and the Men in Blue have a narrow margin of five points over the Kiwis.
World Champions Australia are third on the rankings with 109 points, as these three round off the top three spots in the latest Men's ODI team rankings. Both these sides have defeated India in ODI bilaterals during the last session. Meanwhile, Pakistan have slipped to the fifth spot.
These annual rankings include full applied weightage (100 per cent) to matches played since May 2025, while results from the two previous years are also given half weightage (50 per cent).
South African's edge past Pakistan in ICC Men's ODI Rankings.
The South Africans had had a clear edge over Pakistan as they entered the top four position after Pakistan faced a crushing defeat against Bangladesh in the ODI series a few months ago. With 103 points, they are fourth on the rankings, with Pakistan following them with 98 points.
The remaining sides that remain in the top eight and are well in the hunt for the next ICC ODI World Cup include Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and England. Such has been England's poor form in ODIs that they are currently eighth and are on the verge of not getting a direct spot into the main tournament of the ICC World Cup 2027.
Sri Lanka can go past Pakistan, as they have several ODI matches lined up before the 2027 World Cup. They have their upcoming one-day series against the likes of the West Indies, England, and, lastly, India. England will have to win some matches to secure a direct qualification.
Massive blows for Bangladesh and West Indies after they sought direct qualification for CWC 2027
Bangladesh and the West Indies are currently the two teams who would be looking to secure a direct spot in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, as Bangladesh sits in ninth spot with just 84 points, and the West Indies are tenth with just 74 points.
Though it seems very tough for the West Indies to enter the top 8, Bangladesh just needs six more points to go past England in the rankings. Only the top 8-ranked teams secure a direct qualification for the ICC Men's ODI World Cup.
However, the only positive for them is that, as South Africa is the host of the upcoming World Cup in 2027, they will qualify for the contest as the home side. However, if they secure their place in the top 8, then the 9th-ranked team would also be handed a direct entry into the World Cup.
