India T20 Squad for Sri Lanka 2024

India will travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball tour in July 2024 for an ODI and T20I series. The India vs Sri Lanka series will observe six games between both sides, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

After the ongoing T20I World Cup 2024, Gautam Gambhir is expected to become the new head coach and India will battle with Sri Lanka under a new coach. India and Sri Lanka played a bilateral series on the latter's soil in 2021, where the visitors won the ODI series while the hosts won the T20I series.

While India will keep strong and experienced members in the ODI squad, they might keep a young side for the T20Is. Many youngsters who performed well in IPL 2024 might also get opportunities in the series. Below we discuss India's probable T20I squad for the Sri Lanka series.

India T20 Squad for Sri Lanka 2024 (Probable)

Openers- Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Abhishek Sharma were fabulous performers in IPL 2024. Jaiswal, part of Rajasthan Royals, slammed a ton in the tournament.

Gaikwad was the second-highest run-getter after Virat Kohli and Abhishek Sharma slammed multiple quickfire knocks at high strike rate as SRH opener. He also led the team to the final and helped the team to break the record of the highest-ever Team total in the Indian Premier League.

Middle-Order Batters- Rinku Singh, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag

Rinku Singh and Suryakymar Yadav are fabulous middle-order batters in the shortest format and will be crucial members of the squad in Sri Lanka T20Is. Shivam Dube is part of the T20 World Cup and has already cemented his place in the T20I side with his ability to bat at a high strike rate.

Another hard-hitting batter that Team India can try in the Sri Lanka T20I series is Riyan Parag. He was among the most feared RR batters in the 2024 season of IPL earlier this year.

Wicketkeepers- Rishabh Pant & Jitesh Sharma

Rishabh Pant and Jitesh Sharma are the two wicket-keepers that Team India can induct into the squad to crush the Sri Lanka team.

Pant and Sharma are hard-hitting batters who have experience in the national side. Pant has made a powerful comeback after his recovery from an accident while Sharma made his T20I debut last year.

All-Rounders- Hardik Pandya (C), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar

Hardik Pandya is the vice-captain of India and is highly likely to lead the side in the Sri Lanka T20Is. The right-arm pacer has shown wonderful form with both bat and ball in the T20 World Cup 2024 and will be a crucial member of the side.

For spin all-rounders, selectors might go ahead with Axar Patel and Washington Sundar. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja might be rested as he will be part of the ODI series for sure. Moreover, Jadeja also has a lot of workload as he also plays on the Test side.

Spinners- Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy

Ravi Bishnoi has been a consistent T20I spinner for India for the last few years and also has an economy rate of 7+. The right-arm spinner is an emerging spinner for India in the shortest format.

The other spinner India might try is Varun Chakravarthy, whose international career commenced in Sri Lanka in 2021. However, he was snubbed out of the national side soon.

Chakravarthy helped KKR to win the IPL 2024 title with mentor Gautam Gambhir and might restart his career with the Sri Lanka tour.

Pacers- Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj

Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Mohammed Siraj will be a good choice of three pacers for India against Sri Lanka. Arshdeep Singh gave the left-arm variation while Avesh Khan did a fabulous job in IPL 2024.

Both of them also have a decent experience in the shortest format. Mohammed Siraj has been a feared name in Sri Lanka since last year when he bowled a deadly spell to dismiss them for just 50 in an ODI game. Siraj will add experience to the pace attack.
