After the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 concludes, India will face Australia in a five-match T20I series, thus starting preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which will be jointly hosted by West Indies and the USA. Most of the Indian players who are a part of India’s World Cup squad will be rested while the players who represented India in the Asian Games are likely to be included in the Indian squad.

Australia have already announced the squad for the T20 series, naming Matthew Wade as captain. They have rested the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh and Josh Hazlewood. Meanwhile, India will announce their squad after the World Cup semi-finals. It has been reported that Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan will be the only two players from the World Cup squad to be included in the T20I series.

India will also miss the services of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the T20I series against Australia as the ankle injury has forced him out of the game for a certain amount of time. Hardik would not be able to make a comeback before India’s tour of South Africa which will start in December.

Suryakumar Yadav To Lead The Indian Team In T20 Series?

Top Performers in the IPL and members of the Indian squad that took part in the Asian Games will be given priority by the selectors against the performers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Players like Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are expected to take the field for India in the T20 series.

It is likely that Surya Kumar Yadav might be leading the Indian side given that he was the vice-captain of the team when Hardik Pandya was leading the T20 side after the T20 World Cup in 2022. Big names such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and even Shubman Gill are supposed to be rested after the World Cup and they will rejoin in the South Africa tour.

Meanwhile, Australia will play a full-strength squad with David Warner, Steve Smith, Travis Head, and Glenn Maxwell being there in the squad to face India. It will be an interesting series right after the World Cup to keep the cricketing drama alive.
