The India cricket team’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh is uncertain after controversial remarks made by a retired Bangladeshi army officer. India is set to include three ODIs and three T20Is during the tour in August, which may be in jeopardy due to the recent developments surrounding these statements.

Last month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the schedule for the white-ball tour of Bangladesh. The Indian team will play three matches of each format across two venues in Bangladesh. India last toured Bangladesh in 2022-23, where they won the Test series 2-0 and lost the ODI series 1-2.

Team India’s White-Ball Series in Bangladesh Likely to Be Canceled

A report from The Times of India reveals that India’s tour of Bangladesh is still on the schedule, and nothing has been confirmed yet. However, there is a strong possibility the tour could be called off due to the current circumstances.

"The tour is part of the calendar but nothing is final yet. There is a bright possibility of India not touring Bangladesh for the ODIs and T20Is because of the current situation," says a source tracking developments.

India is set to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series will begin in Mirpur on August 17, with the second ODI on August 20. The final ODI will be in Chattogram on August 23. The T20I series will start in Chattogram on August 26, followed by two matches in Mirpur on August 29 and 31.

Retired Bangladeshi Army Officer ALM Fazlur Rahman Sparks Controversy

A retired Bangladeshi army officer, Major General (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman, sparked controversy with a provocative social media post.

In the statement, Rahman, who is closely connected to the current interim government, said that Bangladesh should occupy seven northeastern Indian states if India were to engage in conflict with Pakistan.

“If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy seven states of North-East India. In this regard, I think it is necessary to start a discussion on a joint-military system with China," he said in a Facebook post.

In the current scenario, India's upcoming tour remains uncertain, with no final decision made yet. While it's being considered, the Indian government will make the final decision.

India to Play First T20I Bilateral Series in Bangladesh

India's upcoming tour to Bangladesh will be their first-ever T20I bilateral series against the host nation. This is also the first time India will visit Bangladesh for a white-ball tour, with no Test matches scheduled. The tour will feature only ODIs and T20Is, a setup last seen in 2014 when India played three ODIs there.

This series also serves as India's final preparation for the 2025 T20 Asia Cup. With a packed schedule, the team will kick off with a five-match Test series against England in June 2025, following the IPL. Additional tours against the West Indies, Australia, and later South Africa are also planned for the year.
