The pitch curator at the Green Park in Kanpur made a massive statement after the play for Day 3 of the second India vs Bangladesh Test was called off. He said that they had everything under control but match officials didn’t tell them what the problem was.

The ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh has been marred by the rain. The rain gods weren’t kind on the first three two days as almost two sessions on Day 1 along with the entire Day 2 washed away and only 35 overs of the play has been possible till now.

There wasn’t rain on Day 3 and it was expected that we would get some play under belt. However, that wasn’t the case. Even though there wasn’t any cover on the ground, match officials inspected the field three times and weren’t convinced about it.

The soggy patches on the field, particularly in the deep mid-wicket area near Pavilion C were the major problem. Also, damp 30-yard circle also continued to concern. Match referee Jeff Crowe, alongside reserve umpire Virender Sharma and TV umpire Rod Tucker then finally decided to call off the day.

The pitch curator of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) Shiv Kumar said that match officials gave them three different times for inspection on Day 3 of the second India vs Bangladesh Test but didn’t tell them which area was wet. He revealed that he even insisted they start the match. Speaking to IANS, he explained:

“They gave us three different times for inspection but never told us what is the issue. Which area was wet or whatever is the problem? I told them that you can start the match but if you have any concern let me know.”

Ground official says match officials told them to wait for the natural light during Day 3 of the India vs Bangladesh Test

Ahead of the third inspection on Day 3 of the second India vs Bangladesh Test at 2 PM, a ground official said that match officials told them to wait for the natural light. But he mentioned that they didn’t tell about the exact area of the wet patch. He told IANS:

“Match officials have asked us to wait for the natural light then only we can continue the play. The pitch and another part of the ground are perfectly good, there are certain areas of concern but we can start the play.”

He further said: “If they want to wait for the sunlight, then they should have given the next inspection time at 1 pm because a little sunlight is always here which will dry the concerned area in an hour. We have already lost two sessions, next inspection at 2 pm will lead us to call off the match,”

With almost three days getting washed out, BCCI has come under serious criticism for the poor drainage system in Kanpur. With the forecast not being good for the last two days, it remains to be seen what will be the future of the Test match between India and Bangladesh, especially with WTC points on the line.
