On a pitch that has been slow and where the edged have not carried, Jofra Archer not only bowled with real pace but he also got disconcerting bounce from the surface.
That disconcerting bounce accounted for Indian opener Rohit Sharma in the first innings.
World cricket is currently blessed with great fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Josh Hazlewood, Jofra Archer, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Kyle Jamieson, Anrich Nortje, but according to Ashish Nehra, Barbados born English International Jofra Archer is the most skillful pacer among all the aforementioned names.
“Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah are all amazing bowlers, but for me Jofra Archer is the most skilful fast bowler in world cricket. He has the pace; he has a steep bouncer and the way he bowls from close to the stumps,” said Nehra,” Ashish Nehra said on Star Sports.
Nehra also pointed out the subtle variations including the leg-cutter that Archer bowled in the first innings. He also added that the manner in which he troubled Indian skipper Virat Kohli with short-pitch stuff on such a benign surface speaks volumes about his prodigious talent.
“The way he bowled the leg-cutter, if India had batted first he may not have got that much help from the pitch, but he knows that the variations are required. The way he bowled the bouncer to Virat Kohli even on this pitch, it shows the abilities and capabilities of this bowler,” added Nehra.
Jofra Archer will be a real threat for Team India on the final day given the variable bounce that the surface is offering.
