Former South African speedster Dale Steyn has claimed that Ravichandran Ashwin might play a vital role for India ahead of the seamers in the Test series against England. Ashwin has been undoubtedly been the number one spinner in the world at the moment in the longer format and he does bring a lot of value to the team.

The off-spinner has been breaking records after records in the book but he hasn’t been very effective in overseas conditions in the past. However, he has worked on that part recently and he is coming off some good performances in the ICC World Test Championship as well as in the County game against Somerset.

“I Think Spin Will Be The Difference” – Dale Steyn

Dale Steyn has surprisingly picked the spinners to have more of a say in the England series for India and he has put his weight behind Ravichandran Ashwin to have the most impact out of the Indian bowling lineup. He added that the game moving into five days will always be decided with the spin attack.

“Maybe it’s out-of-the-box thinking here from me, but I think we’re putting a lot of emphasis on the seamers when someone like R Ashwin might be the biggest key for India. As these five Test matches go on, I think spin will be the difference,” Dale Steyn wrote.

Dale Steyn Reveals The Trump Card For India

Dale Steyn heaped praises on Ashwin for his ability to bowl those long overs and mentioned that the English team have always prepared well to play out the seamers which makes them slightly weaker against the spinners. He went on to pick the second-ranked Test bowler in ICC rankings, Ravichandran Ashwin to be the trump card for India which seems strange at the moment.

“Ashwin is the kind of bowler who bowls tons and tons of overs. Teams like England and Australia, who are so good at playing seamers and seamer-friendly conditions, don’t tend to play spin particularly well. So Ashwin might be the biggest trump card that India have going forward,” he added.

The five-match Test series between India and England starts on the 4th of August at Trent Bridge.
