The fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 began with rain interruptions on the opening day (Thursday, July 31) at The Oval in London. Following Day 1, attention now turns to Day 2, which could also be affected by rain, with pitch conditions and weather expected to play a crucial role.

Team India ended Day 1 of the final Test at The Oval on 204 for 6 after just 64 overs were bowled due to rain. England put the visitors under early pressure. Karun Nair scored only his second fifty-plus score for the national side. He and Washington Sundar added an unbroken 51-run partnership by stumps.

India Eye Strong Start on Day 2 to Cross 250 On Green Pitch

England, led by stand-in captain Ollie Pope in the absence of Ben Stokes, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul cheaply, collapsing to 33 for 2. Shubman Gill was run out for 21 following a miscommunication with Sai Sudharsan, adding further pressure on the visitors.

However, Karun Nair, making a return to the side, steadied the innings with an unbroken 51-run partnership alongside Washington Sundar. India recovered to 204 for 6 by stumps. Nair remained unbeaten on 52, his first Test fifty since 2016, while Sundar was not out on 19.

India will look to build on this platform and push past the 250-run mark on Day 2. With the pitch likely to settle as the day progresses, the morning session will be crucial in shaping the course of the match.
