The final Test match between India and England at The Oval is poised for a dramatic finish on Day 5 (Monday, August 4) after rain and poor light brought an early end to the evening session on Day 4. Both teams are pushing for a win, but India are under pressure to avoid another Test series loss in England.

England were in a commanding position at 339/6 while chasing 381 on Day 4 of the Test. Joe Root and Harry Brook shared a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, India managed to come back into the contest with crucial breakthroughs just before bad light and rain forced an early end to the day’s play.

According to AccuWeather, rain is unlikely to affect play before 2 PM, with only a 5% chance earlier in the day. However, the probability of showers rises sharply to 60% later in the afternoon.

BBC Weather also forecasts a dry and cloudy morning, which could aid India’s seamers, especially with the second new ball approaching. Rain is expected to arrive around 1 PM, coinciding with the lunch interval.

Meanwhile, the Met Office presents the most pessimistic outlook, predicting a 40% chance of rain as early as 11 AM, increasing to 60% by noon, with steady rainfall expected until late afternoon.

What Happened on Day 4 of The Oval Test?

England need just 35 more runs to chase down a record target of 374, while India require three more wickets - possibly four if the injured Chris Woakes is needed to bat.

After being reduced to 106/3, the hosts rebuilt with a 195-run partnership between Joe Root (105) and Harry Brook (111). However, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna removed Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Root to revive India’s hopes before bad light and rain halted play.

With Jamie Overton and Jamie Smith at the crease and weather expected to intervene again, both teams are bracing for a tense finish on Day 5. A draw would hand England the series 2-1, while only a win can save India from another defeat on English soil.
