Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi urged the Indian government to block the live broadcast of the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match. She also criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for agreeing to play against Pakistan in the eight-team tournament despite ongoing tensions at the border.
Earlier this week, the Sports Ministry clarified that Team India will not play Pakistan in any bilateral series and will continue to play in multilateral tournaments such as the Asia Cup 2025. The announcement came amid growing criticism over the scheduled India-Pakistan clash in the marquee tournament.
Boycott Calls Grow for India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 Clash
Criticism is growing over India’s match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Fans and former Indian cricketers have been calling for a boycott of the match.
The teams are set to meet on September 14 in Dubai and could face each other up to three times if both reach the Super 4s and the final.
Indian players pulled out of a group match in the World Championship of Legends. They also decided not to play the semi-final clash against Pakistan, which led to a last-minute cancellation and conceding a walkover in the semi-final.
Opposition MPs have also raised the matter in Parliament, questioning the BCCI’s decision to go ahead with the fixture despite strained ties between the two nations.
Some Pakistan Players Shared Objectionable Posts About India - Priyanka Chaturvedi
Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Mohsin Naqv,i for his repeated remarks about India. She also alleged that certain Pakistani players had shared offensive content targeting India.
"Pakistani cricket board chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been making several statements about India. Some cricketers from the Pakistan team have also shared highly objectionable posts about India," Priyanka Chaturvedi said.

"One current player (Faheem Ashraf) even shared an Instagram story showing a Pakistani army general applying sindoor on the forehead of a widowed terror victim," she added.
You Can Forfeit A Match If Needed - Priyanka Chaturvedi
Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned the government’s stance on India-Pakistan cricket and stated that bilateral ties had already ended in 2013. She said that while India may be obliged to play Pakistan in multilateral tournaments, the option of forfeiting matches is still available.
"The Sports Ministry has said, 'Oh, we won’t do bilaterals.' But bilateral matches had already stopped in 2013. So what new are you really bringing to the table after Operation Sindoor? Then you say, 'We can’t stop multilateral games.' But you can forfeit a match if needed."
"The Indian cricket team, and its players, earn revenue based on the sentiments of the Indian people. They wear the tricolour, which is built on the blood and sweat of our armed forces. Yet the argument given is, 'We are under BCCI’s contract, and BCCI says we are under ICC’s obligation.' I don’t accept this reasoning."
