As the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 heads into the business end, fans still have a chance to witness another India vs Pakistan in the tournament despite both teams not yet having sealed their semifinal spots. But things are not easy, and only the right results will make this showdown happen.
England and South Africa storm into the T20 World Cup 2026 semifinals
South Africa and England have already booked their places in the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. England qualified for the semifinals with a thrilling four-wicket win over New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Harry Brook’s team finished the Super 8 round unbeaten, winning all three matches in Group 2. On the other hand, South Africa won their two games against India and the West Indies to make the cut to the top four. That leaves two spots open for India, Pakistan, the West Indies, and New Zealand.

Pakistan’s tough road
The Men in Green are still alive mathematically, but things are complicated for them. Their Net Run Rate is -0.461, much worse than New Zealand’s +1.390. Pakistan must beat Sri Lanka in their last Super Eight match by a huge margin on February 28 in Pallekele to have a chance.
They have to go past New Zealand’s net run rate to make this happen. However, if Salman Ali Agha’s team faces defeat against Sri Lanka on Saturday, New Zealand will make it to the top four from Group 2. They have three points, and their positive net run rate will help them.
India’s strong comeback to fight for the semis
The defending champions crushed Zimbabwe by 72 runs in their second Super 8 match in Chennai, and now they are fully ready to fight for the semifinal spot in the T20 World Cup 2026.
However, Suryakumar Yadav’s team has one big worry before the Kolkata game, and that is the sixth bowler. For the last three matches, Shivam Dube has been hit all over the park by the rival teams. With West Indies’ aggressive batting, India can’t risk giving the all-rounder another chance.

West Indies need miracle
The West Indies suffered a heavy loss to South Africa. Now, they have to beat India to make it to the top four. If India beats West Indies at Eden Gardens on March 1, the defending champions will go through to the semis no matter the margin.
But if rain plays spoilsport, the West Indies will move up to three points and take that semi-final spot instead.
How an India vs Pakistan clash could happen
If Pakistan manages to finish in the top two of Group 2 and India qualifies from Group 1, fans will witness another meeting of the arch-rivals in Sri Lanka.
They could meet in the semi-final, depending on group positions. If both win their semi-finals, the high-voltage match could happen in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.
