India, on Sunday (October 5), thrashed Pakistan by 88 runs to extend their winning start in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2025. After winning their opening fixture against Sri Lanka by 59 runs, India had little difficulty in seeing off the Women in Green at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

As far as Pakistan is concerned, they managed to bowl out India for the very first time in women's ODIs but still could not manage to clinch their first win against the Women in Blue.

Asked to bat first, India scored 247 runs in 50 overs. Harleen Deol was the top scorer for the team, scoring 46 runs, while Richa Ghosh's unbeaten knock of 35 runs from 20 balls helped the side post a 240-plus total. India were off to a good start with Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal adding 48 runs for the opening wicket.

All-round contribution with the bat for the Women in Blue

However, none of the two openers could convert the starts into big scores. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana dismissed Mandhana for 23 to give her team a much-needed breakthrough. On the other hand, Rawal departed after scoring 31 runs.

Harleen and captain Harmanpreet Kaur then took the score past the 100-run mark before the latter was dismissed for 19.

The likes of Jemimah Rodrigues (32), Deepti Sharma (25) and Sneh Rana (20) got the starts as well but they too failed to last long. Ghosh then played the role of a finisher to perfection and stayed unbeaten to guide the team to a challenging total.

For Pakistan, veteran seamer Diana Bag impressed with the ball, taking 4 for 69 while Sadiq Iqbal and Sana picked up two wickets each.

India thrash Pakistan

While Pakistan did well with the ball, they had another disappointing outing with the bat. Sidra Amin scored 81 runs and was the highest run-scorer in the match but her efforts were not enough for Pakistan to cross the finishing line.

They hardly looked in contention to chase down the total and were eventually bowled out for 159 runs in 43 overs. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals right from the start. With their top-order batters failing to deliver, Pakistan were reeling at 26/3 at one stage before Amin and Natalia Pervaiz added 69 runs for the fourth wicket.

India then struck back with two quick wickets to reduce Pakistan to 102/5. They were on 143/5 at one stage before losing their last five wickets for just 16 runs. For India, Kranti Goud and Deepti picked up 3 wickets each.

India maintain unbeaten record against Pakistan

The win also extended India's unbeaten run against Pakistan in the 50-over format. India have now won all the 12 matches that they have played against Pakistan. Those 12 matches also include five matches in the Women's World Cup.
