India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been officially postponed, according to a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Talks are currently ongoing regarding a potential limited-overs series between India and Sri Lanka, which could take place in mid-August
India were set to travel to Bangladesh for the multi-format series, including three ODIs and two T20Is, after the Test series against England. However, the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have reached a mutual decision to reschedule the tour. The matches will now be played in September 2026.
India-Sri Lanka White-Ball Series Likely to Take Place in Mid-August - Report
India’s postponed tour of Bangladesh has opened up the possibility of a limited-overs series against Sri Lanka in mid-August, according to Newswire. With the Lanka Premier League (LPL), initially scheduled for July-August, also being delayed, both India and Sri Lanka now have a window of availability.
"With India’s scheduled tour of Bangladesh postponed, discussions are underway about the possibility of a limited overs series between Sri Lanka and India in mid-August," the report read.
"The postponement of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), originally set for July-August, has further cleared the calendar for Sri Lanka, creating a rare window where both teams are available."
Sri Lanka Set to Tour Zimbabwe Later in August
The report added that the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are considering a bilateral series in mid-August. It is not officially confirmed, but discussions are underway for a series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
"While no official confirmation has been made, sources indicate that both boards are exploring the feasibility of a short bilateral series—possibly featuring three ODIs and three T20Is," the report added.
India was not scheduled to tour Sri Lanka this year. On the other hand, Sri Lanka are set to tour Zimbabwe later in August, with the series beginning on the 29th. Therefore, mid-August is the only feasible window for hosting India.
The two teams last met in Sri Lanka in July 2023, where India clinched the T20I series, while the hosts won the ODI leg.
What Are India’s Upcoming International Fixtures After Bangladesh Tour Postponement?
With the Bangladesh tour postponed, India’s next international fixtures will be a two-match Test home series against the West Indies. The first Test is set to begin on October 2 in Ahmedabad, followed by the second Test in Delhi from October 10.
After the West Indies series, India will travel to Australia for a white-ball tour, including three ODIs and five T20Is. The ODI leg will commence on October 19 in Perth, while the T20I series begins on October 29 in Canberra.
To wrap up their 2025 calendar, India will host South Africa for a multi-format series. The tour will start with two Tests from November 14, followed by three ODIs beginning November 30, and conclude with a five-match T20I series from December 9 to December 19.
